Während der Artist Residency des Arctic Circle in Spitzbergen habe ich doku-fiktionale Fotografien erarbeitet. Es sind einerseits fiktive Erzählungen über das Leben an Bord während unserer Überquerung der Barentzsee, Selbstportraits, inszenierte Gruppenbilder, Szenen inspiriert von der Arbeit der Walfänger während des 17. Jahrhunderts, den Entdeckern und den weiblichen Seefahrerinnen von denen es wenige, aber doch einige gab, dem Blick auf die Natur und das Weibliche denen beiden häufig ähnliche Attribute zugeschrieben werden.
Andererseits sind die Fotos dokumentarisch und geben Hinweise auf die Reise mit dem Großsegler Antigua und Einblicke in unsere dreiwöchige Expedition am Polarkreis rund um Svalbard.
Die Fotografien werden mit Texten aus historischen Quellen, eigenen Aufzeichnungen während der Reise, Logbuchdaten und gesammelten Informationen über die Arktis kombiniert.
The Wild North
During the Arctic Circle Artist Residency in Spitsbergen I developed docu-fictional photographs. On the one hand there are fictitious stories about life on board during our crossing of the Barentz Sea, self-portraits, staged group pictures, scenes inspired by the work of the whalers during the 17th century, the explorers and the female seafarers of whom there were few but quite a few, the view of nature and the feminine, both of which are often attributed similar attributes.
On the other hand, the photos are documentary and provide information about the trip with the tall ship Antigua and insights into our three-week expedition in the Arctic Circle around Svalbard.
The photographs are combined with texts from historical sources, personal notes taken during the voyage, logbook data and information gathered about the Arctic.
